The Coral Reef was the result of two classes of Three-Dimensional Design students applying their semester of learning to the creation of a community-made armature that would evoke a dead or dying coral understructure. To this, each student was to use plastic to apply an evocation of a portion of the living reef and an inhabitant. The Reef was a two-week assignment in December 2011. The students also worked in collaboration with visiting marine educator Deanna LaSusa-Hotchner (discoverthedepths.com). The reef was constructed by less than 20 people in 10 days, taking 237 counted man hours.
